Sanitary Pad Bank

The Sanitary Pad Bank is a menstrual equity initiative and a flagship project that supports young women’s health. The aim of this project is to provide young underprivileged/underserved girls and women on university campuses and in rural areas with sanitary pads including education on menstrual hygiene and sexual reproductive health. We believe sanitary pads are a necessity not a luxury as such, by providing underprivileged young women and girls with sanitary pads, we are able to break the cycle of poverty, school absenteeism, teenage pregnancies and other related sexual health reproductive issues.

In 2021, we were able to provide 300 girls in Ghana with a three months supply of disposable sanitary pads through sponsorships and donations. However, for 2022 we decided to scale up our operations to reach and impact the lives of more women and girls, hence the Sanitary Pad Bank. Through the independent distribution and sales of local sanitary pads that are readily available on the market, BRAVE is able to generate a profit that enables us to buy more pads to donate to girls in need, thus becoming a self-sustainable initiative. A selection process based on a rigorous needs assessment ensures that pads are provided to young women and girls who are unable to afford the sanitary pads on a regular basis.
